Global Assembly Manager
David Lawson joined Russell Mineral Equipment back in 2008 when, as he fondly recalls, the organisation was building RUSSELL Mill Reline Machine (MRM) #127. Over 10 years later, David is now at the helm of the assembly process for RME’s high-performance equipment as client deliverables have surpassed the RUSSELL MRM #450 mark.
David is Global Assembly Manager for RME, a role he has championed since his appointment as Assembly Manager in 2017 and a capability critical to RME’s engineering and manufacturing performance. His primary objective is to ensure RME has the necessary resources for the efficient assembly of RME-manufactured mill relining equipment to a high standard of performance, quality, reliability and safety, and meet delivery in full on time (DIFOT) objectives for Customers internally and externally.
David heads up a talented group of assembly supervisors, leading hands, senior technicians, fitters and electricians who expertly work on a wide-range of systems – mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic and robotic. Together, this well-orchestrated team ensures every customer build is precision engineered-to-order (ETO) within the assembly cycle time (TAKT) whilst adhering to best-practice zero harm safety culture.
Prior to his appointment to Global Assembly Manager, David gained valuable exposure to the RME business as he successfully transitioned through Assembly Technician, Customer Support Technician and Trainer roles. This collective experience made for a solid foundation for his move into the Assembly function lead.
David began his career as a trade-qualified automotive mechanic working with well-known companies such as Ford and Ultra Tune. David continues to broaden his technical skills and capabilities and has successfully completed a Cert IV in Engineering specialising in Fluid Power and Diploma of Management from Integra Business Solutions.
