Principal Electrical Engineer
Russell Mineral Equipment’s Principal Electrical Engineer, David Krautz, leads the capability that is delivering increased automation and new measures of safety to the RME Mill Relining System – technology which improves the reliability and productivity of minerals processing operations around the world.
David heads a highly-skilled cohort of mechatronics, electrical engineers, designers and technicians and who are responsible for the design of electricals, control systems and application software used in RME’s highly-specialised mill relining machines and systems. This encompasses all that is required to progress electrical engineering projects from concept to completion, beginning with system architecture, estimation, phase planning, detailed design, parts sourcing, manufacture, verification and validation. The team also works with a high degree of precision to ensure all solutions meet exacting safety and design regulatory requirements and international standards.
David is the principal subject matter expert for electrical engineering capability, a role which requires collaboration across engineering disciplines and input into decisions on machinery automations and system integration. David also has deep expertise in low voltage switchgear design for machines, control system hardware and application safety software design.
David first joined RME in 2006, and from 2008 held the role Senior Electrical Engineer until he was appointed to his current position in 2019. Prior to RME, David was 15 years with Leeds and Northrup (Invensys) as an electronic design engineer specialising in digital, analogue, and communication subsystems, as well as electromagnetic compatibility. David was also with the Queensland Electricity Commission for 5 years as a power station electrical construction and commissioning engineer. David has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Distinction from the University of Southern Queensland when it was known as the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education (DDIAE), he is an accredited Functional Safety Engineer through TÜV Rheinland GmbH and a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia.
