Philip Van Vuuren

Regional General Manager, Africa and South Africa

Philip Van Vuuren is Russell Mineral Equipment’s Regional General Manager for Africa and South Africa – a region where the mining and minerals processing sector has always made a significant contribution to both the local and global economy.

In this role, Philip has full responsibility for RME’s operations in Africa, which is aimed at enabling fast, reliable and safe mill relines and optimisation programs for mine sites, comminution clients, and grinding mill operations in the region. This includes providing authentic leadership and direction to the RME team in Africa, and continuously working to improve all aspects of business health, sales performance, services delivery, and profitable, sustainable growth with the support and collaboration from cross-functional teams at RME’s headquarters in Toowoomba, Australia.

Philip has vast experience in the African and South African mining sector, working 25+ years for mine sites and mining OEM’s. This has provided him with a solid foundation and unique knowledge of the regional market and its challenges. Prior to RME, Phil was Mine Manager for HCI Coal, a home-grown coal miner with operations in the Mpumulanga province of South Africa, CEO of Benicon Opencast Mining, a division of Sentula Mining Limited, and Group Technical Executive at Sentual also. He was also General Manager Operations and Aftermarket Manager with Sandvik, a Swedish diversified mining and construction company with a significant presence in South Africa. Philip also served as a Mine Manager for Anglo America Platinum and Anglo America Coal over an 11+ year tenure, a period which provided Philip with a firm foundation for his professional growth.

Philip has a degree in Mining and Mineral Engineering from the University of Pretoria (1992) and has completed both the Executive Development (2009) and Management Development Program’s (2003) at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg
