Chief Services Officer and Chief Executive Team Member
Michael Gavin is Russell Mineral Equipment’s Chief Services Officer – a leadership role with full commercial responsibility RME’s Site Services and Optimisation (SS&O) value stream and vital position on the Chief Executive Team (CET).
As Chief Services Officer, Michael oversees RME’s Services Group which includes Regional General Managers (RGMs), local service and support staff, Asset Support, and Mill Relining Optimisation services. The Services Group objective is to deliver beneficial commercial outcomes to RME’s global Customers through life of asset programs. With a focus on mill reline equipment reliability and performance at lowest lifecycle costs, RME enables Customers to improve mill availability, productivity and profitability.
Michael initially joined RME as Chief People Officer overseeing Human Resources, Quality, Information Services, Change Management, Facilities Management, Learning and Development, and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE). In this role he ensured RME had an exceptional, highly-engaged team delivering to a Customer-first mandate, utilising agile collaboration platforms that support business innovation.
Michael has over 20 years’ executive leadership experience in the global mining sector. Prior to RME, Michael was Head of Employee Relations and General Manager, Human Resources at Rio Tinto. This period included a secondment to Oyu Tolgoi LLC in Mongolia as General Manager, People and Organisation. Michael also gained strong commercial expertise from holding senior human resources positions with BHP Billiton from 2006 to 2011, including General Manager, Human Resources for BHP Mitsui Coal and HR Manager, Services with the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA). Michael is Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) accredited and has a Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from Charles Sturt University.
